River Heights School of Music offers piano lessons for music students of all ages and abilities from beginners to very advanced students. We offer every style of piano lessons from classical to jazz and pop. We have music students who want to play just for fun and students who excel with the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum. We are able to match students with a teacher that works best with their particular age, ability and interest. We start piano lessons from age 5 onwards. Our piano lessons are all private one-on-one instruction. While our piano lessons are all private, parents are more than welcome to sit in on their child’s music lessons. For our advanced piano students we have teachers who can prepare them for university music program entrance or to complete their certification with the Royal Conservatory of Music and we have mature teachers so adult students can feel comfortable. 

Beginner piano lessons involve correct posture when sitting at the piano, correct hand and finger shapes over the keyboard, playing the keys and musical concepts like rhythm reading and then note reading.

 Piano classes tend to start with the same music books (Faber, Bastien) but then can move on to RCM celebration series or methods more suited to the students interest. 

While piano lessons tend to rely heavily on classical music, students can and do learn other styles of piano playing such as: 

• Jazz
• Pop
• Rock
• Blues 
• Vocal accompaniment 

We can also prepare students for University and College music program auditions
